About Affirm
Affirm is a buy now, pay later lender founded in 2012 by Max Levchin, Nathan Gettings, Jeffrey Kaditz, and Alex Rampell, headquartered in San Francisco. It works with roughly 480,000 merchants and 25.8 million active consumers, financing about $37 billion a year in point-of-sale installment loans, and its Affirm Card now carries 3.7 million active cardholders. Standard BNPL loan disputes are filed and adjudicated inside Affirm's own Merchant Portal, giving merchants 15 days to submit evidence before Affirm rules on the case, while Affirm Card purchases run on Visa's rails and follow standard card-network chargeback rules through the merchant's processor and acquiring bank instead. That split means a single Affirm-related dispute can land in two entirely different systems depending on how the customer paid.
