2Checkout, now part of Verifone, is a digital commerce and subscription monetization platform that started in 2006 out of Romania's GECAD Group and was acquired by Verifone in 2020 as it merged into Verifone's broader payments business. It operates as a merchant of record, meaning transactions settle under 2Checkout/Verifone's own merchant account rather than the underlying seller's, so it owns the relationship with the card networks and carries primary responsibility for chargebacks. That MoR setup still leaves the underlying merchant on the hook for proof: cardholders can file a chargeback up to 120 days after a transaction, but merchants get just 3 working days from notification to submit supporting documentation before the case is decided.
